Program Information
What It Is
In our Charter School Residency Program, Jazz Empowers goes into Title 1 charter schools without any instrumental music and/or jazz programs. Jazz Empowers develops a jazz program at the school based on the school’s need, and then operates the jazz program for the entire school year. Jazz Empowers provides the instructor, instruments, and curriculum for the program.
Why We Do It
Only 39% of all middle and high school charter schools in the US have a music program despite overwhelming evidence that learning a musical instrument can increase students’ academic achievement and socio-emotional development. We developed this program to fill this need and help close the opportunity gap in music education.
Who Can Apply
Any Title 1 charter school in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Nashville that is able to pay our subsidized annual programming fee which is usually between $21,000-$25,000. The deadline to apply for the 2024 -2025 school year is April 15th.
