Bio

George Benson was Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1943. A child prodigy, he started gigging at an off the books night club when he was only 8 years old. This was followed by his first single release under the name ‘Little Georgie’  when he was only 9. His early interests were in straight ahead and swingin’ jazz. He was fortunate enough to meet and maintain a professional relationship with Brother Jack McDuff early in his career, and the soulful bluesy swing that they made would serve as the perfect launch pad for Benson’s stellar career. Many of Benson’s early albums such as ‘The New Boss Guitar’, and ‘It’s Uptown’  were in this swingin’, organ driven and soulful style. He would collaborate with many jazz heavyweights on these albums including, Lonnie Smith, Ronnie Cuber, and Marion Booker. He also appeared on one Miles Davis track called ‘Paraphernalia’. During the 1970’s, Benson started an engagement with Warner Bros Records which would catapult him to stardom among a much larger audience. With his organ-soul-fueled-virtuosity in his back pocket, he started singing on his tracks much more. His music took a more fusion direction and with such releases as ‘ This Masquerade’ he won the Grammy for Album of the year in 1972. He has found continued and sustained success through the present day.
