Paul Chambers

Paul Chambers (1935-1969) was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He played bass on over 100 albums during the 1950s and 1960s, often recording with groups led by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Red Garland. He was one of the most sought after bassists during this time period, and although his career was short he solidified his name in the jazz canon. Chambers was an expert at playing bowed solos, allowing him to create melodic lines that influenced bassists for generations to come. Chambers also recorded 10 albums under his own name. John Coltrane celebrated his friend with his minor blues Mr. P.C. on the album Giant Steps, a track Chambers is also playing on.
