Meet Raul

"I wasn’t sure what to expect when I joined jazz band, but after playing for so many years I’ve found that playing in jazz band is actually really fun. Jazz band has taught me a lot. Initially I didn’t know how to play any instruments at all. I’ve developed a lot from playing the bass because it’s shown me how to maintain a consistent pace. Nowadays, music is what helps me relax and calm my nerves. I enjoy school more because of jazz because it’s one of those classes that’s a time to unwind and relax, when you have other AP classes or other extra-curriculars going on. Jazz has made me a better student because it’s helped me be more disciplined and stay persistent with my classwork, and keep pushing myself to do better. All of Matt’s teaching has given me a boost in confidence - because of that confidence I’m able to express myself to other people."
